Random Links

Random links from the past few weeks as I clean out my "mildly interesting blog stuff" folder.

1. Fast Company has an article on the Obama's branding and use of the internet (apparently Liberal caucus each got a copy).

2. From where the internet works to where it doesn't. This study shows that e-mail fails completely as a GOTV technique.

3. Two faced baby born. Do I smell a future in politics?

4. The Stuff White People Like blog is pretty darn funny if you haven't found it yet. Admittedly, it's a really "stuff upper class New England liberal white people like", but it's still funny.

5. Blogging causes heart attacks? (h/t ABCer)

6. Susan Riley, Jim Travers and Paul Wells look at the state of the Liberal Party.

7. Paul Martin's backyard golf course has been approved at his farm which already contains a guest house, tennis court and "a herd of sheep". In the interests of Liberal Unity, I will avoid the obvious joke here.

  • CG says: 3. Two faced baby born. Do I smell a future in politics?

Keith says: I presume you were not intending to be insensitive, Grit, but making light of someone's facial deformity is little off colour, n'est-ce pas?

  • The Paul Wells bit seems a bit out of date now. Latest polls have Dion flirting with a majority. I bet the critics get behind him pretty quick when he be running the country for the next 4 years.

  • Reporters only write about what they hear from party insiders willing to talk. Has it occurred to anyone that their sources may be lying through their teeth, just to get them off their back, and then when Dion wins they'll all be shoving their own words back up their own asses?

  • "Dion with a majority"? LOL

better read C. Hebert in the Trawwna Star today.

  • Dion flirting with a majority?

Perhaps, but I think he's flirting with a girl who is WAY out of his league...

  • "making light of someone's facial deformity is little off colour, n'est-ce pas?"

Future employee of the Human Rights Comission?

  • It's too late for Dion. My money is on the two faced baby.

  • Imagine - a golf course that wasn't built with a BDC grant.

That was the obvious joke, right?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:57 p.m.

  • Art: Ooh, Hebert taking shots at Dion and the Liberals. That's not Dog Bites Man, that's Flea Bites Dog.

CG: The Riley piece was interesting more in what it signified than what it reported. Riley's tone towards Harper was incredibly negative; the attacks that most of the press have egged on as the work of a "strong leader" are now starting to be portrayed as empty-minded bullying.

(Especially considering this was in the Citizen, a Canwest paper. They're not known for being big Liberal backers.)

That said, you linked to the second page, instead of the first.

  • (As for Travers, he's still just peeved that Iggy didn't get the crown. He's about as neutral on that party as, say, Dick Cheney is on renewable energy.)

(Seriously. What is it with Canadian papers and terrible opinion journalists?)

  • My mistake. Hebert wasn't attacking Dion, she was just pushing her book by rewriting its thesis as "new" content, and dismissing In 'n Out's future relevance using past polls.

    That's much better.
